Elementary Program
For Students Ages 5 to 11
Empowering Students
Longmont Little HSE is dedicated to nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning. Our school offers a diverse range of classes including Reading, Writing, Spanish, Culinary Arts, Science/STEM, and much more for elementary aged students. We believe in providing support for homeschool families that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.
In order to be eligible for state funding students must apply and enroll by September 20th, 2025.
Class Descriptions
Language Arts
In learning stations, we will focus on direct phonics instruction, decoding and blending, and syllabication to help students make meaning and develop fundamental literacy skills. Students will be appropriately grouped by ability and age to hone their reading skills through instruction in reading strategies such as predicting, visualizing, questioning, inference, and vocabulary. Writing will consist of word work, handwriting, spelling, journaling, spelling and typing.
Math
Students will explore a sequence of grade appropriate math concepts. The style of class is learning station based and concepts include Place Value, Addition and Subtraction with regrouping, Multiplication and Division, Patterns and Tables, Geometry, Properties of Math, and Pre- Algebraic concepts.
Spanish
Spanish language is built in around Calendar Math. Practicing greetings, days of the week, months of the year, time, seasons, and colors promote conversational language skills. It is important to understand that early language development comes through the natural means of communication. Grammatical understanding develops later. as well as direct instruction to give children a great start in second language acquisition.
Art
Kate Otte of The Artist's Tree brings her expertise immersing students in the world of art as they journey through different artists and styles each week. Students create a masterpiece inspired by the featured artist and style, and take home a piece of their own artistic expression each week.
STEM
NamaSTEM uses methods of scientific inquiry students are challenged to ask questions and then set about through the steps of the scientific method to gather data, test hypotheses, and make conclusions. Classes include robotics, coding, hands-on project based activities, drones, 3-D pens, and more.
Music
Lacey Wheeler of Harmony Tree Music studio will teach a dynamic class of her own creation. She introduces a new composer and instrument each week! Children love her lively songs and the creative movement infused into each class. Click here for information.
Equine Science and Horseback Riding
This program is offered on Tueday and Thursday mornings at the Gracelynned Farm in Ft. Lupton, Colorado. In the program we cover horsemanship, grooming, anatomy, and care of the horse, in addition to topics in pasture management, veterinary care, feeding, and more. Each student also receives 1-to-1 horseback riding instruction each week. We have two wonderful horses in the program, Blue and Ember who love to help us teach!
Learning Centers
Learning centers are designed to provide students with opportunities to explore concepts, practice skills, and deepen understanding in a self-directed or guided manner. They cater to diverse learning styles and allow for differentiation based on individual needs.
